The author, a script writer for Bob Hope in the '70s and 80s, accompanied him during those years on many visits to military bases and naval ships as well as the nation's three military academies: the Air Force Academy, West Point and Annapolis. Hope's first military radio show took place at March Air Force Base in California during the early months of World War II. One of his writers who had been drafted suggested that Hope entertain newly-trained GIs awaiting deployment overseas. Hope told us that he realized within a few minutes on that March stage that he had a unique rapport with the young enlistees. He would go on to entertain active military forces throughout the second World War, in Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East. Read by the author, this excerpt details the military academy specials from THE LAUGH MAKERS: A Behind-the-Scenes Tribute to Bob Hope's Incredible Gag Writers (c) 2009 by Robert L. Mills and published by Bear Manor Media. www.bearmanormedia.bizland.com/id370.html A full audio version of the book will be avail soon from Bear Manor Media.
