Description
The father of history as we know it was Herodotus. He was a Greek who lived in the fifth century B.C. at a time when the Greeks defeated the great Persian empire. Born In the city of Halicarnassus on the shores of the Aegean Sea he traveled widely through Egypt and Western Asia. Unlike earlier historians he did not make the gods the directors of human history. He was the first writer to present history in a secular way, ascribing power to natural events and human decision. He was one of the great figures of the Greek revolution. Recorded on April 7, 1998.
