Description

Extract from Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven, audiobook, by Mark Twain. 101 minutes. Narrated by Richard Henzel.

While you may not know the name, you might recognize his voice as that of the "Rise and shine!!" DJ that was the first thing Phil Connor (Bill Murray) heard every morning, coming out of his clock radio in the film Groundhog Day. He's been a working actor since 1965, in all sorts of capacities. But aside from commercials, film, television, and plays, for over forty years he has been portraying Mark Twain in his solo show "Mark Twain in Person," directed by James Thornton. And for the last six years, he has also been recording and publishing unabridged Mark Twain audiobooks, as The Mark Twain In Person Audiobook Library.

Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven begins thirty years after the Captain's death, as he is speeding across the universe on his way to the next life, though he doesn't know where or when his journey will end. Interestingly enough, this short story was the last work that Mark Twain would publish before his death in April of 1910. It's not a spoiler to tell you that he makes it to heaven (it's in the title after all), but you may be surprised at some of the customs, characters, and spectacles he finds there. Great fun, interesting philosophy, and for a finale, a magnificent, grand heavenly reception for a newly-arrived born-again barkeeper from New Jersey. Suitable for all ages.
